Therapeutic Indication:

Valacyclovir: Herpes genitalis Herpes zoster

Dosage and Administration:

• Herpes Zoster: The recommended dosage of valacyclovir for the treatment of herpes zoster is 1 gram orally 3 times daily for 7 days.
• Cold Sores (Herpes Labialis):  The recommended dosage of valacyclovir for the treatment of cold sores is 2 grams twice daily for 1 day taken about 12 hours apart.

Side Effects:

No serious side effects have been noted to date with the administration of valacyclovir in immunocompetent adults. The most frequent side effects are nausea, headache, vomiting, dizziness, and abnormal pain.
