Therapeutic Indication:
Venlafaxine: Venlabiox is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder as defined in DSM-IV.
Dosage and Administration:
- Generalized anxiety disorder: (extended-release capsule) initial, 37.5 to 75 mg/day ORALLY (single dose); may increase dosage by 75 mg/day every 4 days to a max dose of 225 mg/day
- Major depressive disorder: (immediate-release tablets) outpatients, 75 mg/day ORALLY (2-3 divided doses); may increase dosage by 75 mg/day every 4 days to a max dose of 225 mg/day
- Major depressive disorder: (immediate-release tablets) inpatients, 75 mg/day ORALLY (2-3 divided doses); may increase dosage by 75 mg/day every 4 days to a max dose of 375 mg/day (3 divided doses)
- Major depressive disorder: (extended-release capsule) 37.5 to 75 mg/day ORALLY (single dose); may increase dosage by 75 mg/day every 4 days to a max dose of 225 mg/day
- Panic disorder, With or without agoraphobia: (extended-release capsule) starting dose, 37.5 mg/day ORALLY for 7 days; increase dose after 1 week to 75 mg/day; subsequently, dose may be increased by 75 mg/day at weekly intervals to a MAX dose of 225 mg/day
- Social phobia: (extended-release capsule) 75 mg/day ORALLY (single-dose)
Side Effects:
- Cardiovascular System: hypertension
- Digestive System: nausea, constipation, anorexia, vomiting, flatulence, weight-loss
- Nervous System: dizziness, insomnia, dry mouth, nervousness, abnormal deams, tremor, depression, paresthesia, libido decreased, agitation
- Urogenital System: abnormal ejaculation, impotence (male) anorgasmia (female)
