Therapeutic Indication:

Risperdone: Management of psychotic disorder(It appears to produce significant improvement in both the positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia).

Dosage and Administration:

Adulst: Oral, 1mg bid on first day, 2 mg bid on second day 3 mg bid on third day, Dosage adjustment thereafter should occur at intervals of at least 1 week in increments of 1 mg bid. Range is 4 to 16 mg/day.
Renal & Hepatic Impairment: Elderly Paitients: Oral, 0.5 mg bid initially; increase in 0.5 mg increment bid thereafter.
This drug should not be administered for under 15 years of age.

Side Effects:

CNS Depressants:May cause additive CNS depressant effects.
Antihypertensives:Risperidone may enhance hypotensive effects.
Carbamazepine: May increase clearance of Risperidone.
Clozapine:May decrease clearance of Risperidone.
Levodpa:The effects of levodopa may be antagonized.
Other Dopaminergic Agonists (bromocriptine, pergolide, apomorphine):their effects may be antagonized.
