Therapeutic Indication:

Fenofibrate: djunct to dietary therapy for the treatment of adults with elevations of serum triglyceride levels (types IV and V hyper lipidemia); adjunct to dietary therapy for the reduction of low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), total cholesterol (total-C), triglycerides, and apolipoprotein B (apo B) in adult patients with primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia (Fredrickson types IIa and IIb)

Dosage and Administration:

Standard micronised formulations of fenofibrate are available as 67-mg capsules to be taken several times daily, or as 200- or 267-mg capsules for once daily dosage. The usual initial dose is 67mg three times daily or 200mg once daily; the dose may be reduced to 67mg twice daily or increased to 67mg four times daily or 267mg once daily according to response.

Side Effects:

Liver function tests increased, Headache, Abdominal pain, constipation, nausea, Back pain, CPK increased, Respiratory disorder, Rhinitis and Rhabdomyolysis.
