Therapeutic Indication:
Divalproex: Absence seizure, Simple and complex
Bipolar disorder, Acute manic or mixed episodes
Complex partial epileptic seizure
Migraine; Prophylaxis
Dosage and Administration:
- Mania: The recommended initial dose is 750 mg daily in divided doses. The dose should be increased as rapidly as possible to achieve the lowest therapeutic dose which produces the desired clinical effect or the desired range of plasma concentrations. The maximum recommended dosage is 60 mg/kg/day
- Epilepsy: Divalbiox is indicated as monotherapy and adjunctive therapy in complex partial seizures in adults and pediatric patients down to the age of 10 years, and in simple and complex absence seizures
- Migraine: Divalbiox tablets are administered orally. The recommended starting dose is 250 mg twice daily. Some patients may benefit from doses up to 1000 mg/day
Side Effects:
COMMON
- Gastrointestinal: Abdominal pain, Diarrhea, Indigestion, Loss of appetite, Nausea, Vomiting
- Neurologic: Asthenia, Dizziness, Feeling nervous, Headache, Insomnia, Somnolence, Tremor
- Ophthalmic: Amblyopia, Blurred vision, Diplopia
- Other: Infectious disease, Influenza
SERIOUS
- Cardiovascular: Palpitations, Tachycardia
- Endocrine metabolic: Hyperammonemia
- Gastrointestinal: Pancreatitis
- Hematologic: Thrombocytopenia, Dose-related
- Hepatic: Liver failure
- Immunologic: Immune hypersensitivity reaction (rare )
- Neurologic: Hyperammonemic encephalopathy
- Otic: Ototoxicity – deafness
