Generic Name:

Acetaminophen

 

Pharmacotherapeutic Group:

Analgesic, Antipyretic

 

Therapeutic Indication:

For temporary relief of minor aches and pains associated with headache, muscular aches, backache, minor arthritis pain, common cold, toothache, menstrual cramps and for the reduction of fever.

 

Dosage and Administration:

Adults: 325 to 650 mg every 4 to 6 hours or 1 g 3 to 4 times a day. Children: A 10 – 15 mg /kg/dose schedule is recommended. May repeat doses every 4 hours; do not exceed 5 doses in 24 hours.

 

Side Effects:

Used as directed, Acetaminophen rarely causes severe toxicity or side effects.

Therapeutic Indication:

Short-term treatment of migraine attacks with/without aura;

 

Dosage and Administration:

ADULTS: PO Recommended dose is £ 100 mg taken with fluids. Doses of 100 mg have not been proven to provide a greater effect than 50 mg. If headache returns, additional doses may be taken at intervals of ³ 2 hr up to a max of 200 mg/day.

 

Side Effects:

CV: Hypertension; hypotension; bradycardia; tachycardia; palpitations; pulsating sensations; ECG changes; syncope; arrhythmia; angina; coronary vasospasm in patients with history of CAD.

Therapeutic Indication:

Biomadol is indicated for the management of moderate to moderately severe pain. It has been used to treat pain following orthopedic and gynecological procedures, including cesarean section. 

 

Dosage and Administration:

ADULTS & CHILDREN ³ 16 YR: PO 50–100 mg every 4–6 hr; maximum daily dose 400 mg. ELDERLY PATIENTS > 75 YR: PO 50–100 mg every 4–6 hr, maximum daily dose 300 mg.

Biofenac

 

Generic Name:

Diclofenac Sodium

 

Pharmacotherapeutic Group:

NSAIDs

 

Therapeutic Indication:

Biofenac is indicated for the treatment of post operative inflammation in patient who have undergone cataract extraction and for the temporary relief of pain and photophobia in patiens undergoing corneal refractive surgery. It is also indicated in the treatment of conjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis, corneal ulcer and post traumatic inflammation of the cornea and conjunctiva, provided that these conditions are not associated with an ocular infection.

Biofenac is also indicated to inhibit intraoperative miosis, which may occur in response to surgical trauma despite preoperative establishment of mydriasis.

 

Dosage and Administration:

Cataract Surgery:

One drop of sodium diclofenac ophthalmic should be applied to the affected eye, 4 times daily beginning 24 hours after cataract surgery and continuing throughout the first 2 weeks of the medication.

Corneal Refractive Surgery:

One or two drops of sodium ophthalmic should be applied to the operative eye within the hour prior to corneal refractive surgery. Within 15 minutes after surgery, one or two drops should be applied to the operative eye and continued 4times daily for up to 3 days.

 

Side Effects:

Transient burning and stinging, keratitis, elevated intraocular peressure, lacrimation, abnormal vision, blurred vision, conjunctivitis, corneal deposits, corneal edema, corneal opacity, corneal lesions, discharge, eyelid swelling, iritis, irritation, itching.
